I just wanted to follow up today with some updates. Thank you for a wonderful first day of school! Students were super polite and patient as we worked on getting schedules fixed and getting everyone to their correct classes. First of all, I do want to remind all students that you’re not to be in the parking lot outback at any time except for when coming to and leaving school. Failure to follow this could result in your parking privilege being revoked. Also, I forgot to mention today in our upper classmen assembly, that earbuds and headphones and those things that Bluetooth to your phone or iPad cannot be used unless it’s in class and for an educational purpose or you may use them at lunch. Also, after some further thought, during your lunchtime you may use your phone in the hallway. The Jack Stephens Gym will be shut down until further notice during lunch. During lunch you may go out front, outback in the picnic area, in the cafeteria, or outside the library. When going out front you must sit or be near the picnic tables for supervision purposes. Also, as a reminder, you’re not allowed to leave campus for lunch. Parents please fill out your student's Online AUP so they can get their iPad as soon as possible. With that in mind, we will not be handing out iPads to Seniors tomorrow due to the lack of response of online authorization for you to use and get the iPad. Again, if your schedule is not complete please make sure you make your way down to student services so that you can have your schedule fixed. We know the line was long today, but that is a typical thing for the first day of school. Parents if you are driving your student to school as you can tell the traffic pattern unfortunately is very slow. We have people on duty as early as 7 o’clock in the morning and your student can come to school well before 8 AM. I appreciate everyone’s cooperation and having the first day of school being a fantastic one and we look forward to finishing out the week by wearing red on Friday. That is a long-standing tradition at PHS. Thank you and have a wonderful evening.

Attention all students and parents:
The WVDE has recently upgraded our computer systems statewide which has caused a major learning curve for all of us who use it. I know many of you want your schedules. When the upgrade occurred, some of the scheduled classes were not pulled over from the old system. Our counselors have been working diligently to fix as many errors and fill as many empty spots as they can with our huge student population. With this in mind, our plan is to hand out student schedules next week. We will not guarantee they will be perfect, but we are doing the best we can to make sure we reach perfection. Here is the itinerary for handing out student schedules, open house, and freshman orientation for next week. We encourage parents to attend the orientation so you can see where your student's classes are when they walk around. You will also get to listen to and talk with admins about expectations.
Monday 15th: Seniors can pick up schedules from 9am-3pm in the offices. Hamilton freshman will have their orientation at 5:00 in the auditorium and receive their schedules then.
Tuesday 16th: 10th and 11th graders can pick up their schedules from 9am-3pm in the offices. Jackson freshman will have their orientation at 3:00 in the auditorium and receive their schedules then. Open house for everyone will be 4:45-6:45.
Wednesday 17th: Any remaining Hamilton or Jackson freshman, or 10th-12 grader can pick up their schedules in the offices. Vandy freshman will have their open house at 5:00 and will receive their schedules then.
Thursday 18th: School starts at 8:am.
If you have any questions, please call 304-420-9595

Due to registration delays for early college through WVUP, the payment deadline for dual credit classes has been extended until Friday August 19th.

For freshman orientation schedules will be picked up in the cafeteria first. Once the student gets their schedule they will report to the auditorium for a brief presentation. Following the presentation they can tour the building and see where their classes are. Parents and guardians are encouraged to come.

Attention Dual Credit Students!
Any Junior or Senior taking a dual credit class through WVUP, the deadline to pay for the class is today! You can pay online ( https://www.wvup.edu ) or in person at WVUP. Any questions, please call 304-424-8000.

We have heard public concerns and received questions concerning Parkersburg High School’s proposed cell phone policy. As of now, those changes will not happen.
Parkersburg High School will continue to follow Wood County Schools policy 5114.11: Communication/Electronic Devices. Cell phone use will be allowed before and after school and during a student’s designated lunch period. The full policy can be found at https://tinyurl.com/WCSPolicies .
We will continue to listen to our entire school community to determine the best way forward on how to address the challenges electronics can present in classrooms and on campus. We want to work with parents, guardians, teachers, staff and students to make PHS the best it can be for everyone.
