Wood County Schools Open Enrollment Begins April 1st
PARKERSBURG, WV - Wood County Schools will begin accepting open enrollment applications for the 2025-2026 school year starting April 1st. Parents wishing to transfer their child to a school outside their designated attendance zone must submit an application by May 30th for consideration.
Under the district's open enrollment policy, applications for intra-county, non-resident, and out-of-state student transfers will be reviewed based on grade level capacity and available programs and services.
Parents can submit applications via the Wood County Schools website or through their child’s school office using a provided iPad beginning at noon on April 1, 2025. Once an application is received, a decision regarding the request will be made within 45 working days. Denials will include a written explanation, and parents may appeal decisions to the school board and state superintendent if necessary.
Students already attending a school outside their designated zone do not need to reapply annually. However, transfer placements may be revoked due to chronic absenteeism, tardiness, or behavior infractions categorized as Level 3 or 4 under West Virginia Board of Education Policy 4373.
Transportation for students accepted through open enrollment is the responsibility of the parents, though some students may access existing bus routes under specific conditions. Special education students with transportation requirements outlined in their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) will be provided transportation as required by law.
Out-of-state students seeking to enroll in Wood County Schools must apply by May 30th and, if accepted, pay an annual tuition of $6,000 unless they are dependents of Wood County Schools employees.
