Assistant Principal, Cindy Oxender at Jefferson Elementary Center worked to welcome over 30 professional teaching and teaching aide assistants for an afterschool training session focused on integrating the new $50,000 Space Lab into weekly West Virginia standard science lessons. The event, which brought together staff from Jefferson, Emerson, Neale, Lubeck, and Franklin schools, was led by experts from the Katherine Johnson Space Center.
Educators participated in hands-on workshops designed to familiarize them with the Space Lab’s cutting-edge resources and how to incorporate them effectively into their curricula. The training aimed to enhance student engagement in science by bringing real-world space exploration concepts into the classroom.
Throughout the week, all Jefferson Elementary students had the opportunity to experience the Space Lab as guests of the Katherine Johnson Space Training Center. Students engaged in a variety of space-themed activities, including learning space-themed music in their music classes, playing “catch the meteor” in physical education, and enjoying astronaut and solar-themed read-alouds in both their classrooms and the school library.
