Wood BOE appoints Olcott to board
PARKERSBURG - The Wood County Board of Education has appointed Rick Olcott to fill a vacant board seat until the November general election.
The Wood County Board of Education met in special session Monday, Feb. 12, to consider seven applicants for an interim board seat. The candidates were:
District A
Jane Burdette
Randall Modesitt
Thomas Smith
District C
Rick Olcott
Mary Beth Shultz
Brian Stanley
Bradley Winans
At the start of Monday’s meeting, Chad Conley from District C withdrew his name from consideration for the interim position.
The board conducted interviews with the applicants, returning to open session and announcing the board’s choice Monday evening.
Former board member Debbie Hendershot vacated her seat earlier this month to seek another public office. The school board has 45 days to fill a vacancy, but was advised by the Wood County Clerk’s Office and the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office to fill the vacancy by Feb. 12. The filing period for the primary election ends Feb. 13.
The vacant seat will be part of a special election in the November general election.
Olcott will be sworn in at the beginning of Tuesday’s regular board meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. at Jefferson Elementary Center.
